GreenTech Days 2025: Collaboration, Circular Design, and an Unforgettable Experience

Earlier this September, the Jiva Materials team travelled to Malmö, Sweden, to attend and present at GreenTech Days 2025 – a two-day event hosted by ICAPE Group that set a new benchmark for how sustainability-focused gatherings should be organised.

From the moment we arrived at the Clarion Hotel Malmö Live, to the closing lunch at ICAPE’s MMAB factory, the event was seamless. Every detail: the warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, thoughtful schedule, and even the inspiring city boat trip – reflected ICAPE’s professionalism and dedication. As participants, we felt truly looked after, giving us the freedom to focus on what mattered most: connecting with peers, sharing insights, and driving the conversation on sustainable electronics forward.

A Stage for Industry Leaders

The agenda was rich and diverse, bringing together companies and experts tackling sustainability from different angles – materials science, logistics, manufacturing, and circular design.

Setting the Stage – Yann Duigou (CEO, ICAPE Group)

The event began with Yann Duigou, who reminded us why we were gathered: electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream worldwide, and unless industry leaders act decisively, the problem will only accelerate. His keynote was both a challenge and an invitation: a call to collaborate across the value chain to deliver practical, scalable solutions.

Designing a Circular Future – Jiva Materials

Our own session followed, delivered by Jack Herring and Stephen Driver. Jack presented the origins of Soluboard®, our recyclable PCB substrate, and its role in reducing embodied carbon by 67%. He highlighted how Soluboard® not only addresses the environmental cost of PCBs but also opens the door to recovering fibres, copper, and electronic components for reuse.

Stephen brought a wealth of context, drawing on more than 40 years of PCB manufacturing experience. He explained how integration with current processes is not just possible, but essential if we are to see real adoption across industries like automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and it was encouraging to see how much interest Soluboard® continues to generate.

Innovation in Materials – Shengyi Technology Co.

Next, Rachel Shuxian Fang from Shengyi demonstrated how one of the world’s largest laminate suppliers is investing heavily in sustainable alternatives. From bio-based FR-4 laminates to recyclable formulations and energy-efficient production using waste-heat recovery, Shengyi’s scale ensures these innovations can impact the market quickly.

Our Sustainable Journey – Nathan Martin (COO, ICAPE Group)

Nathan Martin gave us an inside look at ICAPE’s own sustainability roadmap. His presentation detailed how ICAPE is embedding CSR into sourcing, procurement, and logistics – tackling the challenge of Scope 3 emissions head-on. It was inspiring to see a large-scale supply chain partner take genuine ownership of their environmental footprint.

Smarter Supply Chains – Christelle Meckler (DHL)

Christelle Meckler presented DHL’s ambitious net-zero roadmap. Electrification of delivery fleets, expansion of sustainable aviation fuel, and carbon-neutral facilities were all part of the plan. The scale of DHL’s logistics network means these changes will ripple across industries, creating measurable reductions in global supply chain emissions.

Responsible Growth Workshop – Ecovadis / Implement Consulting Group

The interactive workshop provided tools for assessing ESG performance. It was refreshing to see so much emphasis placed on practical implementation – not just high-level concepts. Participants shared strategies, challenges, and frameworks, making this one of the most valuable sessions of Day 1.

Sustainability in Action – The Malmö Boat Tour

The first day ended with a city boat tour showcasing Malmö’s own sustainability initiatives. Cruising past renewable energy projects, eco-districts, and examples of circular city design offered us a new perspective on what sustainability can look like at an urban scale. It was not only educational but also a welcome moment of reflection, fostering informal conversations between participants that carried into the evening dinner.

Day 2: From Vision to Practice

Day two shifted from hotel conference rooms to the ICAPE MMAB PCB factory – a setting that grounded the discussions in real-world practice.

Innovating with Nature’s Fibers –Marcus Von Euler (Papershell)

Marcus Von Euler introduced Papershell’s revolutionary work in creating bio-based composites from paper fibres. Strong, lightweight, and biodegradable, Papershell offers a compelling alternative to plastics in electronic housings and structural components.

Greener Manufacturing –  Emma Tullila (Elephantech)

Representing Elephantech, Emma Tullila explained how copper inkjet printing technology eliminates the need for harsh etching chemicals and dramatically reduces water use. This technology is a game-changer in sustainable PCB manufacturing and perfectly complements the kinds of innovations Jiva is working on.

Factory Tour & Insights – Erik Pedersen (ICAPE Group)

Erik Pedersen led us through ICAPE’s MMAB facility. The tour showcased state-of-the-art equipment alongside practical steps ICAPE is taking to improve efficiency, traceability, and sustainability in PCB production. Seeing these principles in action deepened the impact of the previous day’s discussions.

Closing Reflections – Bingling Li (CMO, ICAPE Group)

The event closed with a moving speech from Bingling Li, who underlined that sustainability is not a competitive advantage but a shared responsibility. Her reflections tied the event together, reminding us that progress requires joint effort across industries, geographies, and disciplines.

An Event Beyond Expectations

What made so remarkable was not just the agenda but the experience. The hospitality extended by ICAPE – from the comfortable accommodation and flawless organisation to the cultural immersion of the boat trip and the shared meals – created an environment where genuine connections could flourish.

We left Malmö not only inspired by the ideas shared but also grateful for the care and thoughtfulness of our hosts. The event demonstrated that sustainability is as much about collaboration and relationships as it is about technology.
